Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

he doen't know

I have no children with the man. Need to get out of the marriage.

Can I leave then tell him?

He is verbally abusive-alcaholic-and ruined my credit.

I don't work,he does...I want nothing from him.

You do not need to tell him that you're leaving. If you feel that you are in danger, then you should stay with family or a domestic violence shelter.

Feel free to call me if you need assistance. I have worked with a lot of domestic violence cases.

Re: he doen't know

If you are in agreement you can get divorced fairly simply (hopefully) via an uncontested divorce. I would suggest you hire an attorney, but if you can't afford one you can see the lawyer of the day at any local probate court.

If he does not want a divorce, it gets more difficult and complicated, but you can still get divorced if you want to. You will need to file a Complaint for Divorce (and other documents) and it will take longer.

Good luck.

You can leave. If you are in fear of abuse (violence, forced sex) seek a restraining order, whether you leave or choose to stay in the home.
