There are a number of factors. Often if one party has more than the other, the one with the more resources can be compelled to pay. Sometimes, the court will order payment and may deduct the payments from any final settlement.

Generally, each party will pay his or her own attorney's fees. In some instances, where there is a disparity in the parties' ability to obtain counsel, one spouse can be made to pay for the other party's attorney's fees. In other circumstances, like a complaint for contempt, a spouse can be ordered to pay the other party's attorney's fees. Good luck! Chris 617-357-4898.
