Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

Lead Paint

I am renting a 3 bedroom apartment in MA for $650/mo. Which is very cheap. The problem is it has lead paint. My landlord told me that she WILL NOT delead the apartment. I have a 4 year old and a 6 month old. I can't afford to move and I can't afford to press the issue because I was advised that if I did I would be evicted. I am a clerk at a grocery store so I don't make very much. What can I do? I am very concerened for my children's safety!

Thank you.

Re: Lead Paint

Get yourself a lawyer. There are lawyers thatr concentrate in lead paint cases. Your landlord is breaking the law - and your children's health is at stake. Since you do not have a lot of money, you might try the local bar association for a pro bono attorney, or alternatively, a local legal services office.

Good luck.

Re: Lead Paint

You should be concerned about your children's health. You should get a lawyer. You should be able to require the landlord to put you up in a lead free environment until they get the apartment deleaded.

Don't delay.
