Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts

EAD but no application for green card after marriage

I am engaged to a US citizen and i am wondering if we get married, if i will have to apply for a green card. I would just be intersted in the EAD, because we are planning to live in Germany anyway. So there is no need for me to get a green card, but it will still be about 1 year until we move to Germany so it would be nice to have the EAD after getting married, so i can work anywhere in the States until we are ready to move out of the country.

Is it possible to just apply for an EAD after marriage, but not go into the process of getting a green card?

Hi,

The EAD application can be filed only in conjunction with the marriage sponsorship paperwork including the adjustment of status application. It typically takes about 2 months for EAD to be issued after filing, but several months for the marriage interview. With EAD you can be employed, and it is perfectly OK to receive resident status in the U.S. at time of marriage interview even if you voluntarily more out of the country at a later point of time.
