us citizen marrying an illegal alien and what are the laws regarding this in massachusetts

This depends on whether the illegal alien entered the US legally with a valid valid and merely overstayed or entered the country illegally through the border.

You can marry someone who does not have legal status in MA. If you wish to petition for him with the Immigration sevice,however,you must take into account several factors. If your spouse entered illegally, he/she will not be able to complete the adjustment of status while in the USA. If your spouse overstayed his/her visa, then he/she could possibly complete the process while in the USA.
