Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts

Visa

I am a US citizen and have lived in The US all my 45 yrs. I am married to a woman in the Dominican Republic. What is the process for her to be able to come to the US and how long does it normally take. Thanks Phil

Re: Visa

First, you must file a petition for alien relative for your spouse. The USCIS must approve this immigrant visa petition. Once it is approved, your spouse will be notified to go to the local U.S. consulate in the DR to complete the processing for the immigrant visa.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me for further assistance.

Good Luck!

Re: Visa

Hi Phil:

The process is fairly straightforward but you also have to consider factors such as where she will be when she files (here or in the DR), whether she will need to travel while she is waiting for her green card, obtaining employment authorization for her, etc. Feel free to give me a call at the office and I will give you an overview of the process. Depending on where you are the processing time is at least a year but could go higher.

Sincerely,

Sameer Kumar
