Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Massachusetts

There was a similar question earlier on the replication of copyrighted images, but my concern is a little more specific. I'd like to know if there is any infringement of copyright if I sketch out an image myself, specifically medical or anatomical diagrams. There is limited scope for variation in such diagrams, which means that there are bound to be similarities with other diagrams illustrating the same organs or bodily functions. In such a scenario would I be violating any copyright laws if I based my sketch on a diagram I found online?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say it depends on how close your sketch is to the protected diagram. Consult with a good intellectual property or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
