Employee non-compete contract

I signed a non-compete contract several years ago with my employer. I am about to leave to start my own consulting company. Employer has given me verbal go ahead but I understand they are investigating legal options under employment contract.

Clause states, ''Employee agrees that, for a period of twelve (12) months after the termination of Employee�s employment, Employee will not, directly or indirectly, compete with the Company�s Business or otherwise own, maintain, operate, engage in, assist, be employed by, or have any interest in any business engaging in or planning or preparing to be engaged in the Company�s Business, within any country which company engages in Company Business''

The signature portion of the contract represents a job title for me that is no longer valid (I have been promoted and have changed titles since the contract execution). Does that nullify the contract? If not, do I have any other recourse.
