Federal taxes

Who is responsible: an employer with holds federal & state taxes from an employees paycheck but does not pay those funds to the state and local government authorities. Is the employee or the employer liable?

If you have a w-2 that shows the tax was withheld, then the employer is responsible for the amount the Employer withheld only. As to taxes withheld by the employer there is a provision of the tax code that covers that protection and would protect the employee.

There are a few exceptions to this general rule, but I will assume non apply to you.
