Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Offer Letter Revoked
I recently was offered a poitions with a solid corporation. I received the offer letter, went and had the drug screening, filled out all of the paperwork to human resources, spoke to the VP on several occasions, only to be told via a voice mail that they (VP, Controller, Director of IT) decided to go another route with this position. Meanwhile, I (thinking I had a job) gave may notice at the company I worked for over 12 years and advised them that their was no possibility of a counter offer from them. Now, as of next week, I have no job. Is what the company did legal, resinding their offer? I would think that if I had an offer letter, did not miss any deadlines for the tests/paperwork, unless I rejected their offer I should have been covered? Help Please!

Did you sign a contract? Massachusetts is an employment at will state - no contract, no word. Unless you can show they had a hidden agenda.
