Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Early Termination of a Lease by Landlord

My landlord has notified me that they will be terminating my lease early(in September) and I've found a new apartment that is available in June. Will they be able to go after me for early termination if I leave early even though they've told me I'm out in September? The rest of the building is empty, I think they're planning on selling once it's empty.

Re: Early Termination of a Lease by Landlord

Why don't you ask the landlord in this case? He might be HAPPY to see you go.

Re: Early Termination of a Lease by Landlord

First, your landlord does not have the right to terminate a lease early unless it is provided for under the terms of the lease.

Second, in this case the landlord may be happy for you to leave so, you can get out of the lease without any problem.

Good Luck.
