Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

I put a $500 security deposit on an appartment and signed a lease (on March 10th) dated April 1, 2010. Due to medical reasons we can not take the appartment. I notified the renters on March 15th. There are also other issues, as we did some work on the apartment, and the renters were also supposed to do some remodeling prior to us moving in. My finacee was supposed to help the renter put down a floor and ended up putting most of it in himself. I also was cleaning and emptying the cabinets and scrubbing the refridgerator and cupboards. So, are we entitled to reembursement of our security deposit?
