Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

My boyfriend and I split up and we own a home together both names are on the mortgage. I still live in the home barely unable to pay the mortgage. Is he obligated to continue paying 1/2 and can he file for bankruptcy on his own and how does this affect me. We were never married but were together for 10 years
