Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

We refinaced our home recently the attorney that handled the closing stole the money to pay off the previous mortgage, at 1 point we had 2 huge mortgages open. The bank brought it to our attention only after it hit the papers what the attorney did, he voluntarily disbarred himself. Luck for us we had title insurance whom eventually paid off the previous mortgage. Our credit is close to perfect so we were stressed this was going to be a big mess. Some one we talked to said we maybe intitled to compensation for all this aggravation if so whom would be responsible for all this happening?
