Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

I signed an addendum on August 28th for pet fees on an apartment that I rent. The addendum indicates the changes take effect on September 1st. I received notice that the fees had not been added to my monthly total and that I owe back fees for the 4 months in which I was not charged. However having scanned the addendum I noticed that the property manager did not sign and date the addendum until December 21st. Does the addendum take effect upon my signature or the signature of both myself and the property manager?

If I understand you correctly, you signed the addendum before you took possession of the property. Therefore, you would be liable for the 4 months worth of pet fees. If you do not have the money to pay for the back fees, I suggest you try to negotiate. You may not get anything, but it is always worth a shot.
