Legal Question in Social Security Law in Massachusetts

I'm asking on behalf of my mom. After my dad had died she was getting SSI for about seven years. Then theu cut her off and had said they over paid her $11,000. Now they garnish her wages at work and took her taxes. As far as i know we were suppose to get SSI until all her kids were out of school. Is there anything that can be done? Its not her fault she was over paid, nor was she aware. Is it worth seeking a lawyer over?

She can potentially appeal their decisions and claim hardship. However I have never seen a success story without an attorney so consulting one would be in her best interest,.
