can i hire an attorney to be my representative payee

SSA prefers that representative payee be family members or friends. If friends or family members are not available, then organizations such as social service agencies, institutions, and state or local government agencies.

An attorney can act as your personal representative. This personal representative will file claims for you, respond to inquiries from SSA.
