Ask the Dr or a health care professional to write a letter that states that your son has an allergic reactionm to the carpets in the house.

Have you had the carpets cleaned?

Write a letter to the Landlord stating that the carpets are causing a health hazard for your son and ask that they "fix" the problem. Namely, ask them to have the carpets removed and replaced or steamed. If this doesn't fix the problem, ask in writing again stating that the failure to fix this problem is resulting in the property being un-inhabitable. You may be able to break the lease if the Landlord continues to fail in resolving the issue. I would recommend that you have an attorney review your lease with you.
