Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

my mom has been married to my step dad for over 40 years,they own 2 properties 1 being a 13 room home thats under both their names the other home is a 3 bedroom home with a 2 bedroom basement apt. that when it was bought my step dad had only his name on it.My mom has had alzhimers for 10 year just latley my step dad basicly sold both properties to his 2 daughters for 1 dollar when he dies he is 86 years old when he passes away are both properties legally my moms or will she be left out in the cold thank you for any help you can give,don vivier

I suggest you pull the deeds for the two properties and consult an attorney immediately. First, a sale for a dollar could impact both your mother and step-father's access to medicaid if needed. Second your step father cannot sign a deed even with a power of attorney without it being in the best interest of your mother.

Much more information is needed, but your mother has certain rights in the marital home as well as other rights.
