Your attorney (from 1999) does not guarantee that an insurance company (regulated by state and federal laws) will remain solvent.

You may have claims that can be filed in bankruptcy court but there is a limited window to file claims or they will be deemed waived.

When you consult with a new attorney, you may wish to reconsider disparaging your current lawyer.
