Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I am helping a young man (20 years old) get his life in order. He is an adopted child. I believe he was adopted at birth.

He has applied for public assistance and has been asked to provide a birth certificate. So far his adoptive .parents have not been cooperative. I think we can find out what county he was born in and what county he was adopted in. To establish his identity will he need a copy of both his birth certicate and adoption decree/order or will his birth certicatebe adequate?

Thank You

If I were you, I would start with just the birth certificate. If the state needs something additional, they'll let you know.
