Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Michigan

garnishment

Can a law office file a garnishment and serve one with this at work and when I call the law office has no idea who is wanting my money? Can this be done. I have no idea who is garnishing me, and the law office can't give me an answer. all they tell me is that it was from 2002. And some house hold bank, I sent my TRW and it is clean. am I being scamed?

Re: garnishment

You could be. You are entitled to see the paperwork - you should have been served with the garnishment notice. And your employer is also served with garnishment papers, which they are required to fill out, etc., and they should show you a copy of this.

Put your requests/demands for more information, proof of the debt, etc., in writing. You should also get a copy of any judgment which was entered against you, which they are trying to collect on.

If you know the court this matter went through, you could also get information from them.

It is odd that there is no judgment on your credit report though.

Definitely verify - you do not want to pay a dime unless it's legitimate.
