Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan

Former Employee Rights

I recently quit a job in Michigan to join an advertising agency in New York City. Prior to my notice, an arline ticket was booked on my former company's behalf for a company-wide yearly convention. Obviously, once I quit, it was no longer relevent for me to attend. The former company then deducted $250 from my next paycheck to cover airline expenses and issued me airline voucher. I just tried to redeem the voucher and was informed that I would also incur a $100 transfter fee. I feel violated and used. Please advise if there is anything I can reference or an points I can raise as to how this is unfair. Should I be doublely be deducted for leaving the company? Please advise!

[lawabby]"Violated and used"??? Over an airline ticket???

Contact your company and negotiate a fair resolution. They could have simply taken the ticket back instead of charging you for it, which would have been reasonable.

If you don't want the ticket, that might be a solution they can live with. Sounds like like an accounting mess-up to me, more than an attempt to use or violate you.

If you truly feel that way (and, if you do, apologies), try to mediate the issue, because that way you will get closure and resolve the issue at the same time.
