Legal Question in Construction Law in Michigan

Dba

I am a licensed builder in the state of michigan, the state requires the business to have its own license which my company dba does not have. This law just recently went into effect, which my customer is taking advantage of and refusing to pay the remaining balance of the contract. The contract has my company name at the top and my signature as well as the customers at the bottom. My question is, if im personally licensed and myself and the DBA is one in the same person doesnt that mean my company would also be licensed? I can understand that a corporation would need to have a license. Isn't there any legal way to collect the money?

Re: Dba

There may be a way to get the money that is owed to you, but I would have to know more facts and review the contract. Is the amount of unpaid money worth pursuing? Depending on who the customer is, a letter from a lawyer demanding payment and giving a brief primer on the law may fix the situation or at least allow you to settle on a lower number (versus pursuing litigation). If you'd like to retain me for a consultation, please contact me. Consultations are not free, however.

Thank you.
