Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Cancelation of cell phone and being charged additional 30 days useage

Is it legal for the cellular phone company to charge me for a service I'm not using significantly past the date I made the cancelation request?

My husband and I have moved and the cellular company we were with does not offer service in the area. I wrote a letter to cancel my service because I was unable to visit a store location to cancel (company requirement, don't cancel over the phone). I've received a letter stating my phone will be canceled in 30 days and that I will be responsible for the charges until then. Since we haven't used our phones since the beginning of July this hardly seems fair. I orginally made contact via phone in July when we signed up for new cell phone service with another company.

It depends upon the terms of your contract with the cell phone company.

Like any contract, the terms of your contract will determine the extent to which the cell phone company may charge you. If you have any questions, please contact me at www.lawgreg.com
