If you quit paying eventually you could be sued. If you are sued and lose you can be garnished and assets seized. So the question becomes do you have any defenses to this debt. Social security cannot be garnished (well isn't supposed to be) as long as you are receiving it electronically into a bank account and no other funds from any other source are there. They can garnish other income though. If you debt is really high then I would consider bankruptcy. If you have no assets in your name it is not a big issue either however if you own a car worth more than $1,000.00 than can seize that if they get an Order to Seize which can be issued if they are granted judgment against you. If you quit paying you will eventually get debt collection calls and that actually can be a benefit to you in the long run.
