Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Credit Harassment

I am being sued for money owed to a credit card as well as money owed on a car loan. My husband works and I do not. I occured these debts before we were married. We have no way of paying for these. Will I be put in jail or can they garnish my husbands wages?

Re: Credit Harassment

Generally speaking, your husband's wages would not be garnished as he was not a party to the contracts evidencing the debts. It is likely that the automobile will be repossessed. Your creditors can sue you however and garnish your bank accounts and/or take other property belonging to you in order to satisfy the debt.
