Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

False info on credit report

A former landlord sued me and lost, I was awarded a money judgement for rent he had collected for time I was not living there and he paid me. When I checked my credit score since I discovered that he reported me to the credit agency for money I don't owe him and that he certainly was never awarded. How do I correct this? Is that legal fir him to lie to a cedit agency?

Re: False info on credit report

Reporting incorrect information to your credit report is a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The first thing you need to do is contact both the Creditor (Landlord) and Credit Reporting Agencies where the incorrect entry is on. Send them a copy of the judgment that shows that he was to pay you and that you do not owe him money. That SHOULD probably do the trick.
