Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

In 1997 I plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of criminal sexual conduct, 4th degree. When I was 15,in 1989, I plead guilty to joyriding. Is it possible to have the csc charge expunged from my record? If so , what can I expect to pay for this service and would the expunged charge get my name taken off the public sex offender regisrty?

You cannot petition to set aside either conviction because, under the current statutory language, you can petition to set aside your "one and ONLY" criminal conviction. Said differently, if you have more than one conviction for a misdemeanor or felony, you are ineligible to petition to set aside anything. You have more than one conviction, so you're out of luck. But for the past few years, a bill has been kicking around the state legislature to amend the statute and allow expungements when someone has more than one conviction. The bills have not passed. Contact your state representative and state senator and 'lobby' them to support such a bill.
