i would like to know what defines grand larceny in michigan and the penalties under law

Michigan statutes are found at www.michiganlegislature.org .

Search under the "MCL" box for section 750.356 .

Michigan does not have a crime called "grand larceny" ... that's more of a Hollywood/TV term. But it's probably similar to a felony level theft crime, like "Larceny Over $1,000" (penalty is up to 5 yrs and/or $10,000 fine) or "Larceny Over $20,000 (penalty is up to 10 yrs and/or $15,000 fine) ... both found at MCL 750.356.
