Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

I was charged with larceny in a building. I told the officer that was there that I took the property which was a pair of keys and a backpack. This is a first offense and I am very worried that I will face prison. What would be the likely hood of me getting sentenced to time in prison?

State prison? Probably zero chance because the felony sentencing guidelines would not recommend a prison term. But some time in the county jail (as a condition of probation, or not)? That's a much better likelihood. Without knowing more about you, which judge you have, what the prosecutor might be arguing for, etc., we can't guess how likely it would be that you'd get no jail time. You also don't say how old you are -- if this happened when you were 17, 18, 19 or 20, you might be able to get Youthful Trainee Act probation from which your charge cold be dismissed if you complied with probation terms. If you're in that time range, talk to a criminal defense attorney in your area.
