Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

Do I need a lawyer?

I'm 22 years old and just totaled my truck. I've had a MIP, open alcohol in vehicle, drunk driving arrest, and now I just got a misdemeanor for failure to report an accident where the officer stated that I had told him that I had had 2 beers earlier in the day. The reason that I totaled the truck was there was an oncoming car and I swirved to avoid it. The driver of that car took me to a phone to call for help. I thought that my buddy could tow it that night or the next day. When I got to the scene the next day, the truck was gone. I went to my parent's and they said that I had to call in the accident. (They knew because the police had stopped by their house.)

Did you "total" the truck before or after 1/1/04?

How much was the truck worth? Are you on probation from your previous drunk driving charge or any other charge?

I can give you a more definite response with more information. email or call

Re: Do I need a lawyer?

Yes,you definitely need a lawyer. Drunk driving laws have recently changed and the penalties and fines are much more severe. With your prior record you should get an attorney immediately. I think I can help you. If you would like to discuss this in further detail call me at 586-992-9981. Good luck.
