Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

divorce decree question

my divorce case has been dismissed and we have to start alll over again. My question is this.... can my husband and I take care of the judgment divorce paperwork ourself if we are in agreement to the settlement terms? or....would it be wiser to hire one attorney to do this for us?? please help. thank you kindly.

Re: divorce decree question

Hiring one attorney is not a good idea. You should each have an attorney to explain those things that will protect your best interest. This is not the time to pinch pennys. A divorce is a very important event and should be done properly with due consideration to the long term effects.

Re: divorce decree question

You may be able to do this on your own, and you may be able to do this with one attorney, but I agree with Mr. Kronzek that there are significant risks in doing this. Other than child custody and support, unless there's a really good reason, you can't go back and change the judgment once it's entered. Good luck to both of you.
