Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Find out if legally married

I was married while in Air Force serving in okinawa japan to a japanese woman. there was no ceremony, no English marriage certificate, no justice of the peace, no religious ceremony, no license of any kind. How can I find out if I'm legally married? She did come home to ann arbor Michigan with me. She has my last name, a green card and social security number. We both would like to be divorced, have been separated for almost two years. But I never turned any documentation to my county office, nor do I have ANY legal document consumating our marriage. What can I do??

No American lawyer will know Japan's laws concerning marriage. You say you were married. What makes you think you were married? Consult with a lawyer in Japan to determine if you were legally married in Japan. Your base legal officer in Japan might also know the answer.
