Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I am being forced to pay arreargage in chld support since my daughter been born. I have been giving the mother money for child support via a check, written on it "for the support of my daughter". Also have bought my daughter countless of neccessities since her birth, such as, rockers, car seats, clothing, shoes, educational toys, and the list goes on. I also have kept the reciepts to about 75% of what i have bought her. My question is, i am filing a hearing to try to get the arrearage dismissed. Will i have to pay this?

The answer is maybe. If the order requires you to pay through the Friend of the Court or through the central record keeping office, and you did not strictly comply with the order, then the judge may not listen to the fact that you paid directly. However, if the order did not contain such language, you have a better shot at it. I usually tell my clients to pay through MISDU to avoid these situations in the future.
