Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Handling joint ownership of home after getting divorced

I recently divorced my spouse (12/06). He is living in our home and I am paying half of the mortgage until it sells. My realestate agent just told me he has cancelled showings. What legal rights do I have? Is there paperwork I could file to either buy him out or him buy me out?

Thank you

There is much you can do. However, your actions are governed by the judgment that was entered. In order to give you accurate advice I would need to read it. In what county were you divorced, and in what city is the home?

You will need a court order to make your ex-husand play fair and comply with your agreement. You can ask the judge for an order to sell the house and/or to appoint a receiver (he pays) to handle the showing and sale of the house. Your divorce attorney can handle that for you. There are no "forms" that will accomplish this.

Good luck.
