Legal Father?
I know a young (27) man who recently married the 19 y.o. daughter of the family he lives with. He says he only married her because she was going to be thrown out because she is pregnant. He says he will not sign the birth certificate. In Michigan, if a child is born during a marriage, isn't the husband presumed to be the father? Can he refuse to acknowledge paternity? What if no one else steps up?
Re: Legal Father?
Yes, the husband is presumed to be the father.
Re: Legal Father?
A child born during the marriage is presumed to be the child of the marriage. However, paternity can be challenged during the course of the divorce/annulment proceedings.
