Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

marriage and prior debts

I am planning on getting married and my fiance has a student loan that has defaulted. The state is able to withhold her state income tax refunds and take money from her checking/savings account. After we are married, will they be able to keep my tax refunds and take money from our joint checking/savings account?

Re: marriage and prior debts

Can file an injured spouse request with the taxing authority to insure that your portion of the refund is sent to you. The simple answer to your checking/savings account question is to have the accounts in your name and social security number only.
