Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Two Separate Marriage Certiticates

My husband and I were married in Las Vegas (12 years ago) and did this because of work reasons. We never told anyone about it, as we were already planning a wedding in Michigan in June. We then applied for a marriage certficiate in Michigan and were married in Michigan in June of the same year. We now have 2 marriage certificates and my husband seems to think we need to do something about one of them. Do we need to seek legal advice. He thinks we are committing bigamy -- are we???

Re: Two Separate Marriage Certiticates

Greetings; Relax. You are not commiting any wrongful act. Once married, you are married until you are divorced. Getting married a second time is only a waste of money. Thanks, Atty. Trichler; www.trichler.com

You don't need to do anything. You were married in the Nevada ceremony. Michigan didn't add to or subtract from that realtionship. Think of the times people have a civil ceremony and then later a religious ceremony. Bigamy is marrying a second person while still married to the first. John C. Talpos (http://www.Mich-Lawyer.com)
