Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Termination of parental rights and child support

If a parent seeks to terminate his/her parental rights, will the child support payments also be terminated?

Also, if the judge does not think terminating parental rights is in the ''child's best interests'' due to support obligations, will the court/judge be willing to look at over 8 years of evidence that termination of rights would be best for the child?

Re: Termination of parental rights and child support

It is unlikely that any judge will permit you to voluntarily terminate your parental rights outside of an abuse and neglect case. However, you should be discussing the particulars of your case with an experienced family law lawyer.
