Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
What does the word by mean in: "The Plaintiff is required to provide notice to the Defendant by April 1."

It is usually interpreted as giving actual notice to the other party by the close of a normal business day. One could argue that it means that you comply as long as the notice gets there by 11:59 p.m. but you may aggravate a judge by taking that position.
