Legal Question in Medical Leave in Michigan

What to do when a father is accused of domestic violence toward his step son and the step son is the abuser.The step son has alot of mental issues which he is seeing doctors for.the father was trying to calm the step son down grabbed him,they fell and the step son cut his knee on a broken mirror.Now they wan`t to charge him with domestic violence,the father has no record at all.
