can a doctor be held liable for leaving stitches in an eye after surgery

yes, but the patient must have suffered damages as a result - infection, additional medical expenses, lost wages, etc. it's very expensive to pursue a medical malpractice case, so the damages must be substantial. experiencing minor inconvenience with having to return to the doctor's office is not enough. if it permanently damaged the eyesight, then that's a stronger case.
