Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Is the employer obligated to pay?

My wife's company distributed a memo stating they would pay $1,000 to any employee who referred someone who was hired. My wife (an employee) referred someone who was hired. Two weeks after the person was hired the company put out another memo canceling the program. The company now says it will not pay for that person referred before the program was cancelled. Is the company still obligated to pay for the employee hired before the program was cancelled?

Re: Is the employer obligated to pay?

Yes. Your wife will have to decide whether it is worth filing suit in small claims court against the company for whom she still works. It doesn't sound like an honorable company so I am sure there is no loyalty to your wife. Therefore, she may as well look for a new job and file suit. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
