Legal Question in Immigration Law in Michigan

immigration question

I have a green card and I live oversees. I come to the us every six month to keep my green card valid. I was diagnosed with Crohns disease recently and I have been going to doctors since then. I live with my parents oversees and I have insurance through my father. I want to get the citizenship. I know I have to stay in the us for continues years before applying but my medical situation doesn't allow me to do so since I cant get health ins. in the us. Is there a way I can expedite my time to stay in the us and apply for citizen now. Please advice ...thank you

Re: immigration question

I am afraid that you have to meet ALL of the naturalization requirements before you can apply for USA citizenship. Living abroad and keeping a nominal residency in the United States does not qualify you for citizenship. You have to show that you physically lived in the USA at least half of the required 5-years period.

You can find Naturalization Guide here - http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf

Re: immigration question

Dear Inquirer:

There is no exception to the continuous residence requirements for naturalization based on medical needs overseas. If you were to be employed by a US firm overseas (and under certain other limited circumstances) there is a way to preserve your residency for naturalization purposes, however, you must file an application with the USCIS to commence such a process.

I recommend that you visit www.hanlonlawgroup.com or email [email protected] if you would like to consult further regarding this matter.
