Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Michigan

Are Makino CNC drum filters patented? I am interested in starting a business in which I would make the drum filters (on my sewing machine at home) for CNC machines, but would it be illegal for me to do so? I am only familiar with Makino a51 and 261 filters which consist of two layers sewn together and secured with twill tape around the perimeter.

Normally, if an item is patented, the patent is listed on the packaging. As any patent attorney will tell you, there are different types of patents the cover different things. A design patent, for example, protects only the actual design (appearance). Consult with a good patent attorney in your area for specific advice.
