Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

I sign contract for a new job as an anesthesiologist starting November 1st, 2010. and resigned my old job effective October 31st. Last week I called the new employer telling them if there is possibility of to negotiate the salary little higher.

They discussed with there partners and informed me that they donot want to negotiate the salary, and this time they will let the things cool down and will contact me again in six month.

Knowing that I have resign my old job of thirteen years, and currently have no job to fall back.What my rights in this issue.My old employer was kind enough to rehire me but I am not sure how my benefits will be effect after rehiring. Thanks. Dr.Khan
