Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

I was told that it was mandatory for me to go to a class out of town by my employer I asked to see the rule/law that made it mandatory known was given. I DID NOT GO TO THE CLASS AND WAS GIVEN 5 DAYS OFF WITHOUT PAY,based on a charge of insubordination. I was not afforded the oppurtunity to have a rep at the so-called hearing or the oppurtunity to talk to one . I am a civil servant employee, I am grieving the charges. I feel my rights were violated by them not following protocol and procedures.

"mandatory" means you have to go. Since you're a civil servant you only got suspended. If you worked for a private employer, you would've been fired on the spot.
