Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

illegal sublet

I have subletted an apartment, and now find that it was not legal. The apartment complex won't allow me to retrieve my belongings from the apartment, since I am not legally renting it. Do I have some recourse to get my property?

Re: illegal sublet

They are acting illegally. Even though the sublease was not "legal" you are considered a holdover tenant and entitled to the rights of any tenant. Please see my website, www.lawrefs.com for an article on tenants rights. You are entitled to retrieve your belongings. I would be happy to write a legal letter for you to get the ball rolling.
