Practically speaking, no not really. You could write a certified letter to a doctor and ask him to settle the matter to avoid formalities. The medical malpractice law is very complicated - so much that even experienced lawyers make mistakes.

Typically however, lawyers who practice medical malpractice will take a viable case on contingency basis meaning that you would not have to pay unless you settle the case or are awarded a settlement. If you would like a referral, please let me know.
